The Church of the Advent celebrates Eucharist (Communion) at 8 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. each Sunday. Rite I is used at 8 a.m, and is a quieter, more contemplative service. Rite II at 10.30 a.m features music with organ and choir. Lay readers/LEMs, Lectors and Acolytes routinely participate in the Sunday services, which is led by our Rector, Father Dann Brown.
Evensong services are held on several Sunday evenings often accompanied by a guest organist.
Many of the traditions of the Church year are commemorated. During Advent there is a magnificent Advent wreath. For many years, The Chorus Peregrinus of Dalton, Georgia has presented a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on a Sunday evening during the Advent season in December as a musical gift to the community. Christmas Eve is a special day with an early service at 5 PM and a Midnight Mass (beginning with a musical interlude at 10:30 PM and service at 11:00 PM) that is a musical celebration.
Following Shrove Tuesday (which features a pancake supper for the parish), the Lenten season begins with the Imposition of Ashes on Ash Wednesday. Holy Week begins with the Procession of the Palms through the town. Tennebrae, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services follow, with a vigil on Easter Eve, all leading to a glorious celebration on Easter Sunday.
Throughout the year, there is much to experience in our worship at Church of the Advent. All are welcome to join us -- please do!
